HH Shaikh Khalid receives triumphant Bahraini athletes

Manama, Apr. 26 (BNA): First Deputy President of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports, President of the Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC) and President of the Bahrain Athletics Association (BBA), HH Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa, received the members of the Bahrain National Athletics Team, the Asian champions. The Bahraini athletes are back from Doha, where they participated in the 23rd Asian Athletics Championship and clinched the first place after winning 22 medals, including 11 gold, seven silver and four bronze medals. BOC Secretary-General, Mohammed Al-Nusuf and members of the BAA were present. HH Shaikh Khalid conveyed greetings and appreciation from His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa to all members of the national team for their historic achievement at the Asian gathering. HH Shaikh Khalid lauded the milestone achievement, noting that it adds to the rich record of accomplishments of the Bahraini athletics at various continental and international sports gatherings, which, he said, has consolidated Bahrain’s prestigious position on the global sporting map. HH Shaikh Khalid expressed pride in the superb achievement of the national team which broke a long Chinese dominance and put Bahrain at the forefront of Asian athletics. HH Shaikh Khalid asserted that the historic achievement is the fruitful outcome of HM King Hamad’s care and support for the youth and sports sector, as well as the tremendous efforts and close follow-up of HM the King’s Representative for Charity Work and Youth Affairs and Chairman of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports, HH Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa. The exploit is the outcome of the vision to enhance Bahraini sport and consolidate the kingdom’s standing at the Asian and international levels, he said, noting that the accomplishment proves to the world that Bahrain, despite its small size, is capable of turning the impossible into reality through attaining successive achievements. HH Shaikh Khalid lauded the distinguished level showcased by Bahraini athletes, wishing the national team further success. Members of the Bahrain National Athletics Team expressed thanks and appreciation to HH Shaikh Khalid for his constant support, stressing that his close follow-up has contributed significantly to their winning the 23rd Asian Athletics Championship.
