Indonesia Lose 1-4 To India In Sudirman Cup
GOLD COAST, AUSTRALIA, May 24 (Antara) - The Indonesian badminton squad lost 1-4 to India in the Sudirman Cup, which is being held in Australia, Tuesday.
"Our spearhead is the mixed doubles team of Tontowi Ahmad and Gloria Emanuelle Wijaya; if we lose this game, we will be out of business with India," Richard Mainaky, coach of the mixed doubles team, had said at the Carrara Sport and Leisure Centre, Australia, Tuesday.
Indonesia's mixed doubles team of Tontowi and Gloria lost to India's Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Ashwini Ponnappa 20-22, 21-17, 19-21 in their opening match.
"They (Tontowi/Gloria) were considered to be the most prepared by the coaches and manager, but unfortunately they made many unforced errors at critical points; Gloria's game was okay," Mainaky observed.
However, Sudirman Cup team manager Susi Susanti maintained that Indonesia's loss to India was not entirely due to the poor performance of the mixed doubles team.
Indonesia will play its last tie of Group 1D against Denmark on May 24, 2017. In this tie, Indonesia must win at least 4-1 to qualify for the quarter-finals.
The Sudirman Cup is being held at Gold Coast, Australia, from May 21 to 28, 2017.
