Indonesia To Represent Asia In Women's World Chess Championship

Bandung, W. Java, Jan 19 (Antara) - The Indonesian Woman Grand Master (GM) Irene Kharisma Sukandar will represent Asia at the Women's World Chess Championship 2015 to be held in March, in Sochi, Russia. "I have qualified for the championship after winning the Asian Continental Women Chess Championship 2012 and 2014. I am the only Asian representative in the World Championship," Irena remarked here on Monday. According to her, qualifying for the championship is very tight and competitive. She will be one of the 64 women chess players to take part in the championship. Besides representing the continent, the players at the competition are also representatives from different world zones. Irene is the first Indonesian woman chess player to compete at the world championship. GM Utut Adianto and GM Susanto Megaranto were the other Indonesian chess players who had participated in the championship. "I will stay in Russia until the championship while participating in several other championships including the Moscow Open 2015," Irene said. Regarding her target, Irene stated that she will try to win the best position at the championship. Although she is not recognized as a competition by her rivals, Irene said that it would be beneficial as she could play freely. "I do not know who the other competitors are. I may have known some of them. I will do my best and win the best," she noted.
