Iran beats Trinidad and Tobago in World Youth Water Polo Championships

TEHRAN,Dec.2(MNA)--Iran opened the 2012 FINA World Youth Water Polo Championships with a victory over Trinidad Tobago.
In the match held at the Challenge Stadium in Perth, Australia, the Iranian team defeated Trinidad and Tobago 9-7 in Group C. Iran is scheduled to play Romania on Sunday.
Greece defeated Romania 8-5 in the group.
“Our team earned a valuable victory since the players have been under pressure due to lack of warm up games. I am satisfied with the way my boys played,” Iran coach Davoud Reza Soltani said.
“We could have won with more goals but as I said the players were under pressure and I think this victory will help us to boost our self-confidence for the coming matches,” he added.
Over 450 athletes from 24 different nations contest the championships with 19 men’s teams and 15 women’s in action.
A total of 20 teams, divided into four groups of five teams, will be playing together in the tournament, which will be held at the Challenge Stadium in Perth. First team from each group will qualify for quarterfinals, and 2nd and 3rd teams will advance for round of 16.
