Iranian archer Zahra Dehghan books Olympics berth

TEHRAN,June 24(MNA)--Iran’s archer Zahra Dehghan Abnavi has qualified for the Olympic Games place in the recurve women category. In the 3rd stage of the Archery World Cup held in Ogden, the U.S., Dehghan won the last Olympics spot on Friday after beating Bozic from Slovenia 6-2. “I am so glad since I thought I missed the chance to advance to the 2012 Olympic Games but I did that,” Dehghan said. The last individual Olympic qualifications took place for the countries that didn’t have a place (per gender). There was 7 spots for the men available and 8 for the women. They were contested by 80 men (from 35 countries) and 50 women (from 25 countries). This special tournament was conducted with the usual World Archery rules. The top 8 in the bracket were pre-seeded in the 1/16 eliminations. The matches were played out of five sets of three arrows (2 points per sets to be earned). If the match was tied at 5 set points for each archer, there was a one arrow shoot-off closest to centre.
