Iranian weightlifter Moradi wins gold in Asian championships

TEHRAN,April 28(MNA)--Iranian Sohrab Moradi won the gold medal on Friday at the 2012 Asian Weightlifting Championships, which is underway in Pyeongtaek, South Korea. The 85kg weightlifter Moradi came first with a total of 388kg after lifting 172kg in snatch and 216kg in clean and jerk. Another Iranian lifter Kianoush Rostami won the silver medal in the class by lifting 383kg in total. Rostami lifted 172kg in snatch and 211kg in clean and jerk. Sa Jae-Hyouk won the bronze in the class. The South Korean lifted 167kg in snatch and 203kg in clean and jerk with a total of 370kg. Iran’s Sajjad Behrouzi had already won a bronze medal in the 69kg class. He finished in third place with 323kg in total, one kilo less than Shi Zhiyong and Liu Weihuang – both from China – who claimed gold and silver respectively. The Asian event is the last opportunity for regional competitors to earn a ticket to the Olympics.
