Khalid bin Hamad Awards focus on innovation, encourage youth

Manama, Oct. 4 (BNA): The Khalid bin Hamad Graduation Awards reflects the care and keenness of His Highness Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa, First Deputy President of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports, President of Bahrain Athletics Association, to encourage scientific innovation, especially as His Highness built a classic royal vehicle as part of his high school graduation project from Ibn Khuldoon school, which received admiration from researchers and inventors from various part of the world.
Since then, HH Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa, through his efforts has encouraged achieving innovation in the education sector of the Kingdom by raising the level of education and providing students the opportunity to unlock and focus their creativity and energy towards scientific innovation. His Highness started this initiative by launching the first edition of the award for students in engineering and information technology in University of Bahrain. This year, His Highness directed High Committee of the second edition of the Award, to include all the universities in the Kingdom of Bahrain.
His Highness is also keen on annually sponsoring the World Robotics Olympiad, which is one of the events hosted by the Kingdom of Bahrain and supports scientific innovation. In addition, His Highness was keen in supporting the Gulf Innovation Conference this year, which was held last March and saw participation of many researchers, inventors and enthusiasts of innovation from the education sector.
Higher Committee convenes
The Higher Committee of the Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Graduation Projects Award forum, organized by the University of Bahrain (UoB), has adopted the slogan and hashtag "#creating_innovation".
This came during the committee's first meeting which was attended by the head of the committee Dr. Osama Abdullah Al Jowder, UoB Students Affairs Dean and the committee members who included: Mr. Omar A.Aziz Bukamal, Director of HH Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Media office, Dr. Mazen Mohamed Ahmed, Head of the Information System at the Information System Faculty, Dr. Sana Ahmed Al Mansori, Head of the Electrical and Electronic Engineering Department in the Faculty of Engineering, Dr. Bader Dawrish, Head of the Mechanical Engineering Department in the Faculty of Engineering, Mr. Abdulatif Abdullah Al Kooheji, Director of student activities at the Deanship of Student Affairs, Sameera Ahmed Al Bastaki, Acting Manager of the Guidance and Counseling department in the Deanship of Student Affairs, Mr. Abdulrahim Mahmoud Abdulrahim, Head of Services and Protocols Division in the UoB President office. The meeting was also attended by representatives of private universities including Dr. Amin Al Meligi, Head of Student Affairs and representative of AMA University and Ayman Ahmed Ailawi, lecturer in the Communications Engineering Department and representative of Ahlia University.
During the meeting, Mr. Omar A.Aziz Bukamal, Director of HH Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Media office, was elected unopposed as Vice President of the High Committee. The subcommittees of Executive & Judging were also formed. Mr. Abdulrahim Mahmoud Abdulrahim, Head of Services and Protocols Division in the UoB President office, was selected as the head of the Executive Committee and Dr. Mazen Mohamed, Head of the Information System at the Information System Faculty, was selected as the head of the Judging Committee.
The Chairman of the Executive Committee briefed the members with a comprehensive overview of the criteria, condition and awards for the participants of the award. These will be unveiled at a press conference in the upcoming days.
