KL2017: Malaysians Giving Support to Indonesian Runner Draws Limelight

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 26 (Bernama) -- The antics of a small group of Malaysian fans who gave their support to Indonesian athlete Agus Prayogo, at the athletics event of the 29th SEA Games at the Bukit Jalil National Stadium, here Friday night had clearly drawn the interest of spectators. They were seen to continuously inspire Agus, who won the gold medal in the 10,000m since he began the run on the track, in fact some of them had brought banners with the name ‘Agus’ printed on them. There was no Malaysian representative for the event. According to one of the supporters, Arrina Mohd, 37, all the supporters were the ‘marathoner’ community who had come to give their support to Agus, who is considered to be their idol for the event. She said about 30 supporters, who formed part of the marathon community in Malaysia comprising the ‘Kyserun krew’ my365 runners’, Pacemaker Malaysia, Extra Fit and Volt Runner were present to see their idol in action last night. The executive of a private firm told Bernama that he was among the few runners who had a unique run in this region. Asked how she knew Agus, Arinna said she first developed a friendship with the runner since she participated in the Bali Marathon several years back. Agus won the gold medal with a time of 30.22.26 seconds followed by the runner from Vietnam, Nguyen Van Lai who took the silver (30.45.64s) while Sanchai Namkhet from Thailand took the bronze (30.54.86s). -- BERNAMA
