Lack Of Focus Led To Slim Win - Coach
KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 15 (Bernama) -- Lack of focus after the breather caused the Singapore women's water polo team to settle for a slim 7-6 win over Indonesia.
"They started off well and we were leading the match by five goals. But in the remaining quarter they were a bit excited. In terms of that, I would seek the sports psychologist to help them to refocus," said team coach Lee Sai Meng.
However, he noted that despite the slim win, it was a good start for team.
"We will try to win all the matches but we have to take it one match at a time. The girls were playing according to the plan but some of them got excited. They did well in technical and tactical aspects and of course, they made some mistakes," he added.
In the opening match for the women's category held at the National Aquatic Centre, the silver medalist at the previous SEA Games, dominated the first two quarters of the match and led 5-1.
After the breather, Indonesia gained their composure in the third quarter when they added three goals against Singapore, who managed to add just two more goals.
The Indonesians continued to dominate and fought hard to win the match but luck was not on their side.
Indonesia's Rani Raida was the top scorer for her team and her capability to score two consecutive goals in the last minute of the match amazed the spectators at the aquatic centre.
Rani Raida scored four of the six goals for Indonesia.
