Malaysia’s National Muay Thai Squad Strikes Four Golds In UAE

KUALA LUMPUR, June 4 (Bernama) -- Malaysia’s national Muay Thai team won four gold medals at the International Federation of Muaythai Associations (IFMA) Senior World Championships 2022 in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates (UAE). The championship held at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre from May 26 until today, saw the Malaysian team winning its first gold by women's representative, Damia Husna Azian who defeated Fereshteh Hassanzadeh Mirsadeghi from Iran, 29-28 in the 42-45 kilogramme (kg) 'special fight'. Mohammad Rifdean Masdor later defeated Asror Karimov from Uzbekistan 29-28 in the men’s under-23 category for the country’s second gold. Malaysia's third gold was contributed by Muhammad Hairie Mahmad who defeated host representative Ahmed Aldhaheri 29-28 for the men’s 45 kg under-23 category and this was followed by Ahmad Nor Iman Aliff Rakib who won the gold after defeating Iran's Mehrdad Khanzadeh Gharehtapeh in the under-23 men's 54 kg. Besides the four gold, the national team also won a silver and one bronze in the championship. Nur Amisha Azrilrizal, won silver after she was defeated by the defending champion from Thailand Thanittha Plenjit, for the 51kg category for women under 23 years old. The bronze medal was won by Mohamad Farith Ab Razak who participated in the elite senior men's 48 kg category. -- BERNAMA
