Malaysian Team Wins Silver, Bronze in World Sailing Championship

JOHOR BAHRU, July 22 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian sailing team won a silver and a bronze medal at the IODA Optimist World Championship 2017 which ended in Pattaya, Thailand, Thursday. Muhammad Fauzi Kaman Shah won the silver medal (second place) in the Optimist Individual Male after collecting 42 points from nine races. Marco Gradoni of Italy won the gold medal (29 points) . Malaysia’s bronze medal came from the team event. The United States won the gold medal while China took home the silver medal. Team manager Nik Ashraf Qaedi Nik Azizan described the achievement as just the tonic needed by the team bound for Kuala Lumpur SEA Games 2017. “It proves to be a good experience and motivation for the our sailors who put up a strong challenge to the world class sailors," he said in a statement, here Friday. Meanwhile, Malaysian Sailing Association president Kamaruzzaman Abu Kassim congratulated the team for bringing glory to Malaysia in the world-class tournament. He hopes the team could focus and do well in Kuala Lumpur SEA Games. Sailing offers 14 gold medals. -- BERNAMA
