Malaysians Liew Daren, Tan Cruise To Third Round Of Taiwan Masters

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 13 (Bernama)-- Malaysian professional shuttler Liew Daren escaped two hurdles to march into the third round of the Taiwan Masters Grand Prix Badminton Championship at the Hsing Chuang Gymnasium in Taipei, on Wednesday. The unseeded player defeated Lee Chia Hao of Taiwan 1-11, 11-6, 10-12, 12-10 and 11-9 in the opening round in the men's singles of the tournament which uses the 11 points scoring format, according to the Badminton World Federation (BWF) website;www.bwfbadminton.org. Daren then pulled off a suprise by knocking out sixth seeded Firman Abdul Kholik of Indonesia in the second round, winning in 11-6, 4-11, 11-7, 8-11 and 11-6. Ex-national shuttler, Tan Chung Seang also made it to the third round after edging two of his opponents. He defeated Kantaphon Wangcharoen of Thailand; winning in 9-11, 11-8, 11-4, 5-11 and 11-7 in the opening match before stunning eight seeded Muhammad Bayu Pangisthu of Indonesia;11-5, 11-4 and 11-9 in the second round. Malaysia did not send any representatives in the mixed doubles event in the tournament which offers a total prize money of US$ 55,000 (RM230,544).
