MASOC Promises Grand and Glittering SEA Games Opening Ceremony With Elements of Surprise

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 4 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian SEA Games Organising Committee (MASOC) has promised a grand and glittering opening ceremony for the 29th Kuala Lumpur SEA Games on Aug 19, to captivate the crowd and viewers. “MASOC wants the opening ceremony of the SEA Games to be a memorable show and worth the money spectators pay to witness the performances live at National Stadium in Bukit Jalil. However I can not reveal the surprises for the evening. “Let's keep it a secret for all viewers," MASOC chief executive officer Zolkples Embong (pix, centre) told Bernama after appearing as a guest in the 'Ruang Bicara’ programme at Wisma Bernama last night. Zolkples assured viewers in Malaysia and Southeast Asia that the company appointed to design and produce the opening and closing ceremonies of the biggest biennial sporting event in the region would be the best ever. He said even though MASOC was keeping the elements of the opening ceremony under wraps, 70 per cent of the tickets for the show had already been snapped up. The National Stadium at the Kuala Lumpur Sports City which has been upgraded and restored can accommodate 85,000 spectators. Zolkples said the official closing ceremony would also be equally sensational. “Besides, the closing ceremony will also mark the Merdeka eve celebration on Aug 30,” he said. The KL2017 Games will see 38 sports and 404 events competed from Aug 19-30. The federal capital will be the focus of more than 8,000 athletes, officers and visitors during the championships. Malaysia who are once again hosting the region's largest sporting event after 16 years, equalled the record of Thailand as SEA Games host for a total of six times.(photoBERNAMA) -- BERNAMA
