Mexican Ambassador Praises Qatar's Sports Diplomacy and Ideal Organization of FIFA Club World Cup

Doha, February 09 (QNA) - HE Mexican Ambassador to the State of Qatar Graciela Gomez Garcia hailed the success of the State of Qatar in organizing the 2020 FIFA Club World Cup in an exemplary manner in all aspects and in light of the Coronavirus pandemic (Covid-19), praising sports diplomacy in Qatar, which she described as a long-term vision and an ideal way to unite ranks and bring people together.
In an interview with the Qatar News Agency (QNA), the Ambassador of the United States of Mexico said that she enjoyed the contemporary organization of two wonderful versions of the Club World Cup in Qatar in light of the participation of the Mexican C.F. Monterrey and Tigres, considering that the organization in the two versions was exceptional, but taking into account that the previous version was set up in normal conditions compared to the current version, which witnessed a great challenge at all levels in light of the current circumstances the world is going through.
She added that the organizational skills of the State of Qatar appeared clearly in the current version of the FIFA Club World Cup in light of the challenges facing the organization of the tournament, but at the same time she stressed the need to take advantage of this opportunity and learn new experiences and lessons to avoid such matters in the future.
Her Excellency explained that the State of Qatar has placed health as a top priority during the organization of the FIFA Club World Cup, and has taken every possible step to preserve the safety of all participants in the FIFA Club World Cup, including teams, officials, organizers and fans. She pointed out that all World Cup participants entered a medical bubble that does not allow them to communicate with the outside community in order to maintain their safety.
She stressed that the Qatari authorities in general have done exceptional work since the beginning of the pandemic, in terms of adopting precautionary measures to contain the spread of the virus and developing those precautionary systems that allow them to track infections, and whether the opening or partial closure of some places will help to preserve the safety of society. She noted the strategy followed by the State of Qatar in providing support for partnerships and various sectors, as well as conducting extensive (Covid-19) tests, which are all positive things.
The Mexican ambassador expressed her overwhelming happiness at the happy surprise achieved by the Tigres team by qualifying for the World Cup final after defeating Palmeiras (1-0) in the semi-finals, pointing out that they had done an unusual job and greatly improved its performance and level, as they appeared in a wonderful way that pleased their fans and all Mexicans.
She expressed her regret that Tigres fans were not able to come to Doha and celebrate with their team, due to the health precautionary measures and the current crisis that the world is going through, as it happened in the last version with the presence of about 1500 fans of the Monterrey fans to support their team, noting that the Mexican community in Qatar supported Team Tigres and raised the banner of their country and not to a specific team.
HE praised sports diplomacy in Qatar and its role in bringing people together through sport, as she saw that Qatar and Mexico share many things, but they do not know each other well. She explained that since her arrival to Qatar in 2019, she has been working to provide a clearer idea and a more accurate picture of what Qatar looks like, especially in terms of sports and what it is doing for the 2022 World Cup, and is also working to make the Qataris know everything about Mexico.
Her Excellency the Mexican Ambassador expressed her expectations that her country's team would win the World Cup Qatar 2022, and that visitors in this tournament would have a wonderful experience during which they would gain different experiences and get acquainted with a new culture and a classy society that is friendly and welcoming. She stressed that the tournament itself will be highly organized in light of the capabilities of the State of Qatar and the environmentally friendly global infrastructure and stadiums.
Her Excellency referred to the work and cooperation between the Mexican Embassy and the Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy and her aspiration to continue this cooperation in the future, and for Mexico to be a partner in the success of organizing the World Cup, as well as for Qatar to provide support to Mexico, Canada and America when hosting the World Cup in 2026.
She praised the Qatari society, which she described as vibrant, diverse and multicultural, as many nationalities work together, stressing that the State of Qatar has been able to create a balance among society. as it preserved its traditions and heritage while witnessing developments on a global level everywhere in terms of universities, technology, infrastructure, and other things.
