M'sian Coach Satisfied With Sprinters Showing in Thailand

SEPANG (Selangor), June 17 (Bernama) -- National sprint coach Mohd Poad Md Kassim is satisfied with the good results recorded by his boys at Thailand Open Track and Field Championships which ended at Thammasat University Sports Complex, Pathum Thani, Thursday.
He singled out sprint king Khairul Hafiz Jantan for winning the 100m gold medal and the 200m silver medal as a good sign for Malaysia at Kuala Lumpur SEA Games (KL2017), this August.
"The training in several countries have certainly helped improve the performance of our sprinters,” he told reporters after the athletics squad arrived at KL International Airport (KLIA), here, Friday night.
Mohd Poad hopes the sprinters can improve their their performance at the 22nd Asian Track and Field Championships in India on July 6-9 July, which is the final warm up before KL2017.
The sprint coach said Khairul Hafiz did well in Thailand despite failing to improve on his personal best in the 100m and 200m events.
“It is all the more sweeter as Khairul Hafiz managed to beat Jirapong Meenapra of Thailand to win the 100m gold medal. Jirapong was the 100m gold medal winner at 2013 Myanmar SEA Games," he added.
The Thailand Open proved to be a success for the national athletics squad who won four gold medals.
The gold medals were won by Khairul Hafiz (men’s 100m), Muhammad Ziyad Zolkefli (men's shot put), Grace Wong Xiu Mei (women's hammer throw) and the women's 4x100m relay.(imagesBERNAMA)
