National Polo Team To Train In Argentina For Sea Games-- Malaysian Youth And Sports Minister
PUTRAJAYA (Malaysia), Oct 17 (Bernama) -- Argentina is the best training venue for the national polo team to enhance their tactical game before competing in the 2017 Kuala Lumpur SEA Games.
Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin said he and the 11 players shortlisted for the event would undergo training in Argentina in December.
The other players are Shaik Reisman Mohd Ismail, Huzaini Yunus, Saladin Mazlan Harun, Tengku Ahmad Shazril Ezzani Tengku Sulaiman, Tengku Amir Nasser Tengku Ibrahim, Tengku Hassanal Shah, Amirul Farhan, Toh Muda Rizal Ramli, Abdul Rashid Hasnan, Faisal Abu Bakar, and Mohd Sharifuddin Suhaimi.
Khiary said although the list has yet to be finalised, he believed the players selected would be able to win the polo gold medal for the country.
The last time Malaysia won the polo gold medal was at the 2007 Korat SEA Games in Thailand.
"Training in Argentina stint will improve our game. The Argentinian coach will enhance our tactics and make us more competitive," he told reporters at Putrajaya Equestrian Park Saturday.
Earlier, Jogo Polo team represented by Khairy and three other players, namely, Toh Muda Rizal Ramli, Mohd Aizam and Fredrico Rooney reached the semi-finals of the Malaysian Open Polo Championship.
Jogo Polo defeated Selangor team by 5-1. Khairy put up a good display by scoring a goal in the second quarter of the game.
"We had a lot of chances but we failed to score due to the ground condition which caused the ball to bounce," he added.
Polo Jogo will meet with La Familia on Wednesday.
