Qatar Ready to Host West Asia Rugby Championship

Doha, September 26 (QNA) - Qatar Rugby, Hockey and Cricket Federation (QRHCF) announced during a press conference held today at the headquarters of the Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC) the completion of preparations to host the West Asian Rugby Championship for men and women (Qatar 2021), which will be held at Aspire from Oct. 7 to 10, with the participation of the teams of the host country Qatar, UAE, Iraq, Syria, Iran, Lebanon and Palestine.
Qatar is the first Arab and Gulf country to win the honor of hosting the Asian Championship, which confirms the great position that Doha enjoys within the expanded family of global sport.
This edition is the first tournament to be held in Asia due to the COVID-19 crisis and Qatar is the only country that was able to host a Rugby tournament after a two-year hiatus.
President of the Asian Rugby federation Qais Abdullah Al Dhali thanked Qatar for hosting the tournament and the major Asian event, and said that: We trust the capabilities of the officials in the Qatar Rugby Federation and are confident in the success of the tournament, since this tournament will be attended by more than 200 athletes and the number of participating members in the AFC is also increasing, the Omani Federation will be one of the new federations that will join during the next Congress.
For his part, QRHCF President Youssef Jaham Al Kuwari confirmed that Qatar is ready to host an ideal West Asian Championship for men and women, which will be the first edition that brings together men and women, we will secure health requirements in accordance with a number of strict measures during the tournament, in coordination with the Ministry of Public Health, in order to ensure the highest standards of success.
At the conclusion of his speech, Al Kuwari said that Qatar has succeeded with distinction in hosting tournaments and sporting events at the international, regional and local levels during the past years, in a way that made Qatar worthy of the title of capital of sports in the world.
Secretary-General of QRHCF and Chairman of the Organizing Committee for the tournament Abdullah Aman Al Khater confirmed the complete readiness to hold competitions at Aspire in the best conditions and atmosphere, stressing that the organizing committee made great efforts to provide all requirements for the participating teams and delegations.
For his part, Executive Director of Venues and Federations at Aspire Logistics, Ahmed Mohamed Al Hassan, confirmed that Aspire is proud to organize the West Asian Rugby Championship 2021 on its stadiums, especially as it is a major tournament and will enjoy wide follow up and interest from fans of the game at the Asian level.
The draw was made for the two tournaments, where the start of the competition would be between Syria and UAE for women, followed by Qatar against Iraq.
As for the mens competitions, Team Qatar will play against Lebanon while the start will be with a confrontation between Palestine and Iran, the tournament will be held in one group system. (QNA)
