Qatari Stars Make History with Asian Cup Win

Abu Dhabi, February 01 (QNA) - The stars of the Qatari team made history after they became the first team in their country's history to win the AFC Asian Cup. After beating the UAE in the semi-final and going unbeaten all the way to the final, the Aspire Academy graduates were just as decisive in the final. Nothing, whether the fact that they were not considered favorites or the boost, deterred the players from winning the title. They only conceded one goal in the entire competition, that they received in the final. Their star striker became the record holder for most goals scored by a player in a single competition, with nine goals. Saad Al Sheeb was named best goal keeper of the tournament, after keeping clean sheets in all matches but the final. Qatar also overcame a massive gap in experience to win their first title, given that Japan had won the Asian Cup a record four times. (QNA)
