Security Forces Well-Prepared in Ensuring Safety at KL2017 - Minister Khairy

PUTRAJAYA, Aug 2 (Bernama) -- Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin said the security forces in the country had been well-prepared in ensuring safety in the upcoming 29th Kuala Lumpur SEA Games (KL2017). He said the matter was conveyed to him by Inspector-General of Police, Khalid Abu Bakar after the Royal Malaysia Police (RMP) had conducted a series of drills at several strategic locations to curb terrorism threats and untoward incidents during the sporting event which would be held from Aug 19. “In addition to the locations, other places where security will also be stepped up include the national border, and we will work closely with (other) security forces to ensure that the event will go smoothly. “In fact, deputy prime minister (Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi) himself monitors the preparation closely to ensure that the handling of the security aspect is going well,” he said after launching the song, "Bumi Tercinta” produced by Aman Malaysia here Tuesday. Khairy also said the Malaysian Armed Forces (MAF) had been placed on alert and would be deployed, if necessary. Prior to this, Ahmad Zahid, who is also Home Minister, announced that the Anti-Terrorism Special Task Force for KL2017 was set up to ensure the highest level of security during the SEA Games.(photoBERNAMA) -- BERNAMA
