Shaikh Nasser: Triathlon races offer opportunity to discover talent

Manama, Apr. 28 (BNA): HH Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Representative of His Majesty the King for Charity Works and Youth Affairs, Chairman of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports, President of Bahrain Olympic Committee, affirmed that the increasing organisation of triathlon races in the Kingdom of Bahrain offers a greater opportunity to discover talents in this sport in Bahrain and provides youth with the opportunity of developing their abilities and capabilities. HH Shaikh Nasser's remarks came on the sidelines of HH's participation in the Bahrain Triathlon relay, which was held for the first time in the Kingdom, featuring more than 300 contestants, who were divided into teams of three members; each one has to compete in a 375km-swimming race, 10km-cycling race and 2.5km running race. His Highness Shaikh Nasser said that the increase in the number of triathlon races held in the Kingdom gives clear indications of the extent of the spread of this difficult sport among the Bahraini society. "This is positive and calls us for more efforts to increase youth people participation in such gatherings by developing plans that contribute to attract them, in line with the vision and strategy of Bahrain Olympic Committee related to the dissemination of sports culture in the community," HH Shaikh Nasser explained. Moreover, HH Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa praised the broad participation in the relay race by citizens and foreigners as well as foreigners living in neighbouring countries, stating that their presence allows Bahrain to meet the objectives of maintaining sports tourism by attracting the largest number of people interested in various sports and contributing to making the Kingdom a centre for hosting the most important sport activities.
