ISTANBUL (A.A) - 08.05.2011 - European basketball's premier event "The Euroleague Final Four" will be held in the Turkish city of Istanbul in 2012.
Euroleague, the most important professional basketball competition in Europe, is organized under the title sponsorship of Turkey's national air carrier Turkish Airlines (THY) this year.
The 2012 Turkish Airlines Euroleague Final Four will be held early May at Istanbul's Sinan Erdem Arena which hosted the FIBA World Championships last year, Turkish Basketball Federation said on Sunday.
As a result of the intense efforts displayed by the federation in recent weeks, authorities officially announced prior to the ongoing Euroleague Final Four 2011 games in Barcelona that Istanbul would be the venue of the tournament's finals next year.
Euroleague Final Four games will be played between May 4-6, 2012.
Istanbul will be hosting the event for the second time in the last two decades. Partizan Belgrade defeated Joventut Badalona in the 1992 Final Four at Istanbul's Abdi Ipekci Arena.
Apart from this season's host Barcelona, the Final Four was held in Berlin in 2009, Madrid in 2008, Athens in 2007, Prague in 2006, Moscow in 2005, Tel Aviv in 2004, Barcelona in 2003 and Bologna in 2002.
