ZARANDI Shines in Mesaimeer Cup Feature Victory

Doha, March 18 (QNA) - Saeed Nasser Al Qadi's ZARANDI (Scat Daddy x Zaralanta) raced to his fourth victory this season when the Hamad Al Jehani saddled horses landed the MESAIMEER CUP (THOROUGHBREDS (Class 2)) at Al Rayyan Park's dirt track. Ahmed Hassan Al Malki Al Jehani's SHAWEESH (Nizam x Mansourah ASF) had a string of disappointments after a novice win in February coming into the Wednesday start. Hamad Al Jehani trained 6yo bounced back to enter the winner's circle for the third time when Saleh Salem Al Marri guided the grey horse to a two length victory in the PUREBRED ARABIAN HANDICAP (90 & below). Faleh Bughanaim ridden Bsheer finished runner up. Sheikh Khalid Bin Jassim Bin Thani Al Thani's MASSAM (Dubawi x Shumoos) registered his first victory since his arrival from the UK in Qatar on Wednesday. While the Ibrahim Saeed Al Malki trained gelding frequently notched minor places, a win eluded him. Jassem Mohammed Al Badi's AL MODAJAL (Dawn Approach x Bush Cat) had shown promise after some time when runner up at Al Uqda Complex earlier this month. On Wednesday, at Al Rayyan Park, the Gassim Ghazali trained horse entered the winner's circle for the first time since March 2018. Ridden by Abdulaziz Jaber Dharman in the THOROUGHBRED HANDICAP (Class 5) (Qatari Riders Only) (Division 2) (80 & below), Al Modajal beat Mohammed Ghazali's ward Wakeel, ridden by Meshaal Abdlatif Al Mohannadi by a length and a quarter. Osama Omer Al Dafea's ROCK BOTTOM (Coach House x La Tinta Bay) won for the first time in Qatar when the 5yo bagged the THOROUGHBRED HANDICAP (Class 5) (Division 2) (75 & below) in a thrilling finish. Alberto Sanna was astride the owner trained chestnut in the 1100m sprint and the horse bounced back from a string of forgettable finishes to win by a short head, edging out Ivan Rossi helmed My Kinda Day. Osama Omer Al Dafea's IZZER (Clodovil x Broadway Musical) was out of form coming into Wednesday's start, but the gelding changed that at Al Rayyan Park's dirt track. With Anas Al Seyabi in the saddle in the THOROUGHBRED HANDICAP (Class 5) (Division 1) (75 & below), the 5yo registered his first victory of the season when he went past the post one and a half lengths in front of Alberto Sanna ridden Villains Voice. It was Izzer's fourth win overall. Nasser Saeed Al Eida's GOLD FLEECE (Nathaniel x Conquete) got back to her impressive ways after a few hiccups in the last few races to win for the third time this season on Wednesday. In the THOROUGHBRED HANDICAP (Class 5) (Qatari Riders Only) (Division 1) (80 & below), ridden by Abdulaziz Jaber Dharman, the Gassim Ghazali trained mare was unstoppable once on the home straight to win by five lengths and three quarters in front of Salman Fahad Al Hajri ridden Arrow. Rashid Ali Mohammed Al Saaq Al Marri's HAZM AL URAIQ (Mandour x Hot Amber) bounced back from a forgettable outing last month to register his first career win on Thursday. In the 1100m LOCAL THOROUGHBRED MAIDEN PLATE sprint, ridden by the owner himself, the Ali Al Marri trained chestnut beat another Qatari ridden contender Umm Thaga, with Saleh Salem Al Marri astride, by a length and a quarter for a fine win.
