Sustainable Development Minister stresses Bahrain’s commitment to fast-tracking SDGs achievement
New York, July 18 (BNA): Delivering the Kingdom of Bahrain's speech at the United Nations High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development 2023, at the United Nations in New York, convened under the theme “Accelerating the recovery from the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) and the full implementation of the 2030 Agenda, Noor bint Ali Alkhulaif, Minister of Sustainable Development, affirmed that the Kingdom, under the leadership of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, and with the ongoing support of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, is cementing its progressive approach to promote the values of peace, tolerance and peaceful coexistence, safeguarding and protecting individuals’ rights, and realising sustainable development.
She expressed her pride in the Kingdom of Bahrain's proven ability in transforming challenges into sizable opportunities and success stories, and its distinction as a pioneering model in containing and overcoming the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic, whilst implementing an integrated and sustainable whole-of-society whole-of-government approach for economic recovery.
She noted that the acceleration in the progress made in achieving sustainable development was a result of the compounded utilisation of a variety of initiatives, including the launching of the Economic Recovery Plan, committing to and working towards Net Zero emissions by 2060, integrating the SDGS in the Government Plan (2023-2026): “From Recovery to Sustainable Growth”, intensifying digital transformation, and the establishment of a dedicated Ministry for Sustainable Development in 2022.
She highlighted that collaborative approaches between multilateral organisations and governments are essential for creating an enabling environment for innovations to integrate effectively into development policies and agendas, maximizing their global impact. Within this context, she noted the Kingdom of Bahrain's ongoing support for international cooperation and global partnerships in accelerating the progress towards achieving sustainable development goals.
