Key Stakeholders Gather In Dubai To Discuss ICT Transformation

From Sharifah Nur Shahrizad Syed Mohamed Sharer DUBAI, Oct 13 (Bernama) -- Radical transformation of the Information Communication Technology (ICT) sector will be further explored when key ICT stakeholders gather for the International Telecommunication Union's (ITU) Telecom World 2012 Conference, which begins here Monday. At the five-day conference, a debate will be held, which among others, focuses on innovation and trust, challenges of deploying broadband, issues of cybersecurity, privacy and spectrum allocation and the social, human aspect of future communication. Information Communication and Culture Minister Dr Rais Yatim, who is representing the prime minister as head of the Malaysian delegates to the conference, will arrive here this evening. In his forward message, ITU Secretary-General Hamadon Toure said the ITU Telecom World 2012 would provide a platform for the global ICT community to come together at the highest level to debate, network and share knowledge. He said, the ICT sector was currently experiencing a time of unprecedented disruption, transforming not only the industry but the world at large, too. generation's network, applications and solutions to drive socio-economic development across all sectors from transport, government and energy to education, health, finance and agriculture," said Toure. ITU is the United Nations specialised agency for ICT, which currently has 193 member states and over 700 sector members and associates, including ICT regulators, leading academic institutions and private companies. On the sidelines of the meeting, Cyberview Sdn Bhd, a Malaysian Government-owned company and landowner of Cyberjaya will be leading a delegation of three small and medium enterprises at GITEX Technology Week 2012, which will be held concurrently, with the summit. The focus of the mission is to explore commercial technology partnerships and offer potential business investment possibilities available at Cyberjaya, Malaysia's Silicon Valley, and premier ICT hub and gateway to Asean's ICT, multimedia and services offerings. -- BERNAMA
