Nuclear Regulator invites public to comment on Requirements for Off-Site Emergency Planning for Nuclear Facilities

Abu Dhabi: The Federal Authority for Nuclear Regulation (FANR), the country's independent nuclear regulatory body, has invited the public to review and comment on its draft regulations on the Requirements for Off-Site Emergency Plans for Nuclear Facilities. The objective of these regulations is to establish the requirements that must be satisfied to ensure there is effective off-site emergency planning for the nuclear facilities in the UAE. FANR has already issued a set of regulations and regulatory guides to help its licensees fulfil their obligations. The draft regulations are available on the FANR website www.fanr.gov.ae. Members of the public can send their comments to regulation@fanr.gov.ae over the next 30 days. FANR's Safety, Security and Safeguards Glossary can help interested readers to understand the specific terminology used in the regulations. As with previous regulations and regulatory guides, this draft has already been made available for 30 days to local and federal government entities for their comments. FANR recognises the importance of the public's comments and maintains the highest standards of transparency in accordance with Article 9 of the Federal Law by Decree No 6 of 2009, concerning the Peaceful Uses of Nuclear Energy. Since FANR's establishment on 24th September, 2009, the nuclear regulator has asked its external stakeholders to review and comment on more than 16 draft regulations and 12 draft regulatory guides through either web-based or face-to-face communications. – Emirates News Agency, WAM
