Qatar Underlines Importance of IT in Advancing Sustainable Development

New York, October 22 (QNA) - The State of Qatar has underlined the importance of using information and communication technology in advancing sustainable development, economic prosperity, comprehensive social justice, and environmental protection through economic development and investment, as well as benefits in the area of employment, social welfare and other development goals. This came in Qatar's statement delivered by HE Sheikh Jassim Abdulrahman Al-Thani, member of Qatar's delegation to the 68th UN General Assembly before the Second Committee on the item (16) entitled "Harnessing ICT for development". He stressed the need to stimulate the role of information and communication technology through the actions carried out by governments , the private sector , and development partners in order to benefit of the developmental impact of information technology and communications by the growth of the domestic sectors concerned in this area . He also stressed the need to strengthen cooperation within the framework of Internet governance, technical issues and Internet - related international policy.(QNA)
