DPRK interested in attracting Russian tourists - department of tourism

PYONGYANG, February 2. /TASS/. Authorities of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) are undertaking measures to attract more Russian tourists, the State Department of Tourism told TASS. A year earlier, only about 200 tourists from Russia visited the country, thus the Korean state department pays special attention to development of cooperation with Russia. "We are adjusting the tourist programmes to the desires of the Russian side, and we are offering new interesting and convenient routes," the department’s representative said. The DPRK is "watching closely tendencies in the Russian tourist market and develop cooperation with specialised organisations and agencies in the Russian Federation at all levels." "We know, that about 40 million tourists from Russia are travelling the world every year, and mostly to Asian regions." The first contacts between the DPRK and the Soviet Union were established immediately after the Korean War of 1950-1953. After the collapse of the Soviet Union, the tourist relations between the countries slumped dramatically. "Now, our plans are on the basis of mutual interest to develop via tourism the traditional relations of friendship and cooperation between our countries and peoples," the authority said. Read more
