Indonesia's Wings Air to Resume Two Routes to Malaysia's Sabah

MELAKA, April 21 (Bernama) -- Indonesia’s Lion Group Airline’s subsidiary, Wings Air is expected to resume two routes from Indonesia to Malaysia’s state of Sabah in late April following a review that saw high demand between both destinations. Wings Air Operations Director Capt Redi Irawan said the two routes were Papan-Tawau and Tarakan-Kota Kinabalu, while several other routes between Indonesia and Malaysia would be introduced in the next few years. He said so far, Wings Air was offering 113 flight destinations from Indonesia to Malaysia, including the Medan-Melaka flights, which started operations Friday. Redi was speaking to reporters after welcoming the inaugural Medan-Melaka flight at the Melaka International Airport (LTAM) in Batu Berendam here, Friday. He said the ATR 72-500 plane carrying 30 passengers on the inaugural flight was delayed due to an inclement weather. It left Medan at 4.45 pm local time arrived at LTAM at 6.30 pm. The passengers were greeted by Melaka State Secretary Roslan Ibrahim and State Transport, Project Rehabilitation and International Trade Committee Chairman Lim Ban Hong. Lim said the Medan-Melaka flight, which takes one and a half hours, operates from LTAM every day with the frequency of one flight a day using an ATR 72 aircraft with a capacity of 72 passengers. It takes off from Medan at 4.30 pm local time and flies back to Medan from Melaka at 6.30 pm, he added.
