KL Folks Usher Long Holiday With Visits To City's Places Of Interest

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 26 (Bernama) -- City folks flocked to places of interest in the capital with their families and friends to usher the long holiday - the Maulidul Rasul (Prophet Muhammad's Birthday), Christmas and weekend - which fall on a stretch. A visit by Bernama to these places like the National Zoo, the Kuala Lumpur Bird park as well as shopping centres, revealed that despite many returning to their hometowns, the city was still crowded with people from all walks of life. "I took advantage of the four-day holiday to bring my family, especially my children, to visit the National Zoo," said Shaidatul Kamariah Abdullah, 29 from Terengganu, located on the east coast of Malaysia. Although she had to endure a long wait to get tickets, Shaidatul and her family still continued their visit to the zoo as planned. "We had already planned our activities, as for today, we came here (the National Zoo) and in the afternoon, I will take my children to the KLCC," she said. The Kuala Lumpur City Centre complex or popularly known as KLCC, is where the Petronas Twin Towers, the world's tallest twin structure, is located. The complex also houses the renowned Suria shopping mall. For Azmin Mohd Badri, 32, the visit to the National Zoo had long been planned and the long weekend in conjunction with Prophet Muhammad's birthday and Christmas Day was the best time for a family outing. "A lot of visible changes since the last time I visited the zoo, 26 years ago. It now has better infrastructure, provides more interesting activities for children and of course the main attraction here is the giant panda family," he said, adding that he plans to go to the Desa Waterpark in the afternoon. Meanwhile, Mohd Amru Zulkifli, 31, said the long holiday gave his family the opportunity to visit the capital city before continuing their trip down south to Johor state. He said he arrived in the city on Wednesday from Kota Bharu, Kelantan state went on a sightseeing trip to the KLCC, the Botanical Gardens as well as the National Monument. Faisal Rosni, 33, from Perak state said he and his family decided to go to the KL Bird Park because he wanted to expose his children to the bird species that existed in the country. "Instead of taking the children to a theme park, a place like this is interesting to explore, we can educate them on the importance of conserving flora and fauna," he said. -- BERNAMA
