Perwakilan Ladies Of Santiago Held First Malaysian Food Promotion Programme In Chile

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 10 (Bernama) -- Perwakilan Ladies of Santiago (PLS), also known as Spouses of the Malaysian Diplomats, which is based in Santiago, Chile held its first Malaysian Food Promotion programme last Wednesday (Sept 7). In a statement Friday, PLS said the programme was held at the compound of the embassy and attracted more than 40 people comprising Chileans and Malaysians living in Chile. "The programme saw the demonstration on how to prepare and cook 'dosa' or also known as 'thosai'. Although thosai originated from Southern India, it is also a common food in Malaysia and is much associated with the Indian culture and cuisine in the country. "Wanting to expose the 1Malaysia philosophy, PLS, under its current chair of Noor Zulaikha Rameez, had embarked on the said project to also promote and showcase one of Malaysia's popular cuisine," it said. The programme began with the showing of ingredients needed for the batter of the thosai and also how to prepare potato masala. The guests were keen to dirty their hands by participating in the process of cooking the thosai, including Malaysian Ambassador to Chile, Dr Mohamad Rameez Yahaya, who took the time to join the ladies in the noble effort and endeavour. The statement said this kind of event would be held once a month by PLS with cooperation from the Embassy of Malaysia, in order to showcase Malaysia's cuisine from the different races be it Malay, Chinese, Indians as well as other ethnic groups in Sabah and Sarawak (east Malaysian states). "The next demonstration will be on how to cook satay and char kuey teow. "We hope that, since there is no Malaysian restaurant in Santiago and Chile as a whole, this small yet noble effort would promote Malaysia and its culture as well as Malaysian cuisine here in Chile," it added. --BERNAMA
