Turkey and USA create global counter-terrorism forum
NEW YORK (A.A) - September 28, 2011 - Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu has said that Turkey and the United States had created a global counter-terrorism forum which included more than 30 countries.
"I have been in New York for the last ten days to attend the 66th Session of the UN General Assembly. I had the chance to hold a series of bilateral talks with foreign ministers of many countries. International community assess activities and influences of countries on the basis of their actions at the UN General Assembly. Given to this, Turkey has an increasing global influence. This year, Turkey has been one of the most active countries during the UN General Assembly meetings," Davutoglu told a news conference at the Turkevi (Turkish House) in New York.
"Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan and I held 49 bilateral talks. We met U.S. President Barack Obama and Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. We also attended 22 different meetings and conferences including those on Somalia, Libya and nuclear disarmament. We chaired and co-chaired meetings on seven different issues. One of them was international mediation initiative co-chaired by Turkey and Finland. Like the Alliance of Civilizations, we have formed a group called 'Friends of Mediation'. The initiative will make valuable contributions to global peace," he said.
"We have also created a global counter-terrorism forum with the United States. At the first gathering, the forum described the PKK as a terrorist organization that should be fought against like the other terrorist organizations. Turkey and the United States will co-chair the forum for two years. More than 30 countries have already joined the forum," he added.
