Turkey plans to run candidacy for security council membership for 2015-2016
ISTANBUL (A.A) - 26.03.2011 - Turkey is planning to run its candidacy for a non-permanent seat at the United Nations (UN) Security Council for 2015-2016 term, the country's foreign minister said on Saturday.
Ahmet Davutoglu said the government had decided to take active role in international organizations, and increased representation of Turkish citizens in such organizations in the last five and six years.
"We are planning to run our candidacy for UN Security Council's non-permanent membership for 2015-2016," Davutoglu said in a symposium in Istanbul.
Turkey was a non-permanent member of the Security Council for the period of 2009-2010.
Moreover, Davutoglu said Turkey aimed to fully integrate with neighboring countries, and was willing to demolish walls, normalize relations, and integrate economies.
