Turkey's export to Africa reaches nearly 10 bln USD
RABAT (A.A) - 05.03.2011 - Turkish State Minister Hayati Yazici said on Saturday that "Africa Strategy", which Turkey initiated in 2003, yielded pleasing results in the aspect of economy.
Speaking to A.A in Rabat where he attended the 9th term meeting of Turkey-Morocco Economic Committee, Yazici said that the strategy was started to be implemented in 2003 to boost economic and political relations with African countries.
"Our trade volume with African continent was 5.4 billion USD in 2003. 2.1 billion USD was our export, and 3.3 billion USD was our import. In the end of 2010, our trade volume with African countries reached 16 billion USD. Six billion USD is import, and 10 billion USD is export to these countries," he said.
He added that Turkey's trade volume with African countries displayed a significant rise which was 220 percent.
We expect the trade volume to reach 20 billion USD by 2011, he said.
Turkey's trade with African countries was four percent of the country's general export in 2003, and it rose to nine percent in 2009, said Yazici, adding that Turkey also aimed to increase the number of its diplomatic representations in Africa from 20 to 30 by the end of the year.
