Turkey's first "fossils museum" in Cankiri
CANKIRI (A.A) - Cankiri Museum, Turkey's first and only fossils museum, is waiting for its visitors.
The museum in Turkey's central Anatolian province of Cankiri opened in 1972 by exhibiting 116 pieces of collection.
Currently, the museum is home for 2,365 archeological and 1,250 ethnographic pieces of art from Neolithic, Chalcolithic, Bronze Age, Hittite, Phrygian, Hellenistic, Roman, Byzantium Seljuk and Ottoman periods.
Fossils of vertebrates from late Miocene period, which are nearly 8 million years old, attract the visitors in the museum.
Cankiri Museum's deputy director Gulay Sahin told A.A on Monday that the pieces which were displayed in the museum gave information about not only the Anatolian history but also the world history.
She added that with its 8 million year old fossils, Cankiri Museum was the first and only "fossils museum" of Turkey.
