Turkish Airlines' goal for 2023

ANKARA (A.A) - 30.04.2011 - President of the Executive Board of Turkish Airlines (THY) Hamdi Topcu said Saturday that their goal was to be one of the top 10 airlines of the world in 2023 when Turkey would celebrate the 100th anniversary of the foundation of its republic.
Speaking to the AA, Topcu said that they shared the 2023 vision of the Turkish government.
We want the THY to be one of the top 10 airlines in the world with global connections and direct flights to all points, Topcu said.
We plan to make Istanbul the hub for flights and help the THY become a crucial cargo carrier, Topcu said.
Topcu added that they were receiving offers for possible sponsorships from all corners of the world.
THY is already a sponsor of the EuroLeague, Barcelona and Manchester United clubs.
Turkey's flag carrier posted 286 million Turkish lira (189.4 million USD) net profit in 2010. It carried 6.7 million passengers in Q1 of 2011, with a 8.7 percent year-on-year rise.
Based in Istanbul, THY is one of the fastest growing and prosperous airlines in the world. It carries approximately 25 million passengers a year, with direct flights to 126 international and 37 domestic destinations.
The company was founded in 1933 with a fleet of five airplanes that carried a total of 28 passengers. THY made its first domestic flight in 1933 and the first international flight in 1947.
