Turkish Cypriot, Greek Cypriot leaders to meet under shadow of oil drilling projects
LEFKOSA (A.A) - September 26, 2001 - Turkish Cypriot and Greek Cypriot leaders will meet on Tuesday under the shadow of oil drilling initiatives in the East Mediterranean.
President Dervis Eroglu of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) and Greek Cypriot leader Demetris Christofias will meet at the buffer zone in Lefkosa on Tuesday.
The meeting of the two leaders may be overshadowed by developments caused by Greek Cypriot administration's initiatives to explore oil and natural gas in the East Mediterranean.
Leaders are expected to discuss relations with the European Union (EU) in their Tuesday's meeting.
In their last meeting on September 16, the leaders discussed economy. Intensified talks have been suspended since September 16 as Eroglu and Christofias went to New York for the United Nations (UN) General Assembly.
Intensified talks in Cyprus began on July 25 and will continue until October 21. The Cypriot leaders will have a tripartite meeting with the UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon in New York at the end of October.
