Turkish doctors in Somalia

MOGADISHU (A.A) - August 22, 2011 - A team of 20 Turkish doctors has arrived in the Somali capital, Mogadishu, to extend medical help to children suffering from the worst drought and famine in the Horn of Africa in 60 years.
The Turkish team with Turkey-based International Health and Education Association include a pediatrician, an ER specialist and a dentists as well as medical staff, the association's deputy chairman, Serdar Ertugrul, told the Anadolu Agency on Monday.    
"Our priority is to help children with serious condition facing imminent death. We have visited nearly four thousand tents in a camp set up by the Kimse Yok Mu Foundation and transferred these children to a field hospital to give urgent care," Ertugrul said.
Ertugrul said the team brought with them two tons of medical supplies, which he said turned out to be far from sufficient given the huge numbers of refugees at the camp.     
"We believed that we have brought enough medicine with us. But when we arrived here we see that nothing is enough," he said.  
Ertugrul said the team would stay in Somalia and work in the camp and later in a hospital until the camp's residents go back to their normal lives.
