Turkish family wins the struggle to get residence permit in the Netherlands
AMSTERDAM (A.A) - 28.04.2011 - A Turkish family won its long-lasting struggle to get residence permit in the Netherlands.
Besir Unzuk and his children won the case they filed basing on Ankara Agreement dated 1973 signed between Turkey and the European Union (EU).
Uznuk and his children have been living in Amsterdam for 22 years without having a residence permit.
Birsen Anik, lawyer of Uznuk, said Ankara Agreement bestows broad rights to Turkish nationals, underlining that, "the agreement envisages granting 2-month tourist visa to Turks who would visit Europe to do business. It includes many other rights besides this," she said.
Anik said they filed lawsuit to Amsterdam Court basing on the agreement, "the court justified our case and decided to grant residence permit to my client and his family on April 20," she noted.
Anik said this was a test case for many Turkish nationals that were in the same situation.
