Turkish people send more than 1.5 million sms for Africa


ANKARA (A.A) - August 10, 2011 - Turkish people sent more than 1.5 million SMS as support to aid campaign launched for millions of African people who suffer from hunger.
Turkish people also made cash donation to campaigns launched by Turkish Directorate General of Religious Affairs and Turkish Aid Society Red Crescent (Kizilay).
The citizens donate 5 Turkish liras (TL) with an SMS by writing the message "Africa" to all operators.
Turkish citizens' donations to Red Crescent for Africa since the beginning of August reached 2.4 million TL.
Amount of the assistance made to Red Crescent is more than 6 million TL.
Various aid campaigns began in Turkey to help the starved people of Africa especially those in Somalia, Ethiopia, Kenya, Eritrea, Tanzania, Uganda and Burundi.
