UAE gets nanotech assistance from Turkey to develop energy technologies
ANKARA (A.A) - 12.04.2011 - United Arab Emirates, which is the 8th largest oil producer in the world, began to get nanotech assistance from Turkey to improve its renewable energy technologies.
Masdar Institute in the UAE aims to be a leading one in renewable energy technologies with support by National Nanotechnology Research Center Project (UNAM) of Institute of Materials Science and Nanotechnology at Turkey's Bilkent University.
Officials and researchers from Masdar Institute got training at UNAM and were admired by nanotechnology in Turkey.
Dr. Necmi Biyikli from Institute of Materials Science and Nanotechnology of Bilkent University told AA correspondent that nanotech brought a new dimension to materials used in cosmetics, medicine, energy and defense industry.
UNAM hosted 62 nanotechnology laboratories and a 400 m2 cleanroom laboratory, Biyikli said.
UNAM is developing as a national research facility and center of excellence in nanotechnology. UNAM's mission is to train experts through a multidisciplinary graduate program and develop new and high technologies based on nanoscience to strengthen the competitiveness of Turkish products in international markets and hence to contribute to the improvement of living standards in Turkey.
