UAE's Edge Group Believes Malaysia Is Platform To Bigger Markets

LANGKAWI (Kedah, Malaysia), May 26 (Bernama) -- The Edge Group, a UAE state-owned conglomerate involved in advanced technologies and the defence industry, believes Malaysia is a good platform for the company to enter larger markets, especially in Asia and Southeast Asia.

As a start, Caracal, an Edge Group company, has signed an agreement with Ketech Asia Sdn Bhd, an ammunition producer and small arms solutions provider, for the production and resale of Caracal’s CAR 816 assault rifle in Malaysia.

Under the agreement, the two companies would conduct a technology transfer enabling Ketech Asia to assemble the CAR 816 assault rifle at its new facilities in Pahang in support of the Royal Malaysia Armed Forces’ requirements.

Caracal chief executive officer Hamad Al Ameri said the Edge Group has many products and hopes the company can cooperate more with the Malaysian government and companies in the future.

"We are negotiating with our partner to utilise Malaysia-based industries. We are looking and exploring that potential market. We will continue and follow up this development (signed agreement with Ketech Asia),” he told Bernama on the sidelines of the 16th Edition of the Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace Exhibition (LIMA’23), which kicked off on Tuesday.

Al Ameri said the group has full diversity in the defence business to serve all the needs of defence sectors.

"The Edge Group is an advanced technology group which consolidates more than 20 entities into four core clusters -- Platforms and Systems, Missiles and Weapons, Electronic Warfare and Cyber Technologies, and Trading & Mission Support," he said.

"The company is new and was established in 2019. However, since then, we have managed to penetrate many markets and grow into one of the biggest defence players in the region and globally,” he said.

Launched in November 2019, the Abu Dhabi-based conglomerate is one of the world’s leading advanced technology groups, established to develop agile, bold and disruptive solutions for defence and beyond and to be a catalyst for change and transformation.

On LIMA’23, Al Ameri said the exhibition is a great platform to showcase its products and capabilities to the defence market.
