U.S. president calls Turkish premier to discuss political crisis in Egypt
ANKARA (A.A) - United States President Barack Obama has telephoned Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan, a statement from Erdogan's office said on Sunday.
The phone call came amidst violent protests in Egypt against President Mubarak as street fighting between demonstrators and security forces has left more than 100 people dead, according to independent sources.
The statement said the Turkish and the U.S. leaders have expressed agreement that legitimate and democratic rights of the region's peoples needed to be met.
The statement said the two leaders joined in concern over use of force against the region's people, adding that developments in the countries of the region risked instabilities to go deeper and wider.
The statement also said Erdogan and Obama would continue to be in "closer contact" about future developments.
