BMA joins forces with universities to produce more teachers

BANGKOK, December 18 (TNA) - The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) has joined forces with 11 universities to produce more quality teachers over the next 10 years for schools in the capital. Bangkok Governor Police General Asawin Kwanmuang signed an agreement on the cooperation with representatives of the 11 universities in the capital on Monday, witnessed by a privy councilor, General Dapong Rattanasuwan. Under the agreement, BMA will grant scholarships over the next five years under its Erawan Program to 100 M6 high school students annually, 100,000 baht each, for further studying at the 11 universities for their Bachelor degree in faculties or programs where teachers in main basic courses are produced, namely mathematics, social sciences and general science. Students who graduate under the 250-million Erawan Program are obliged to work as teachers at schools under the jurisdiction of BMA for 10 years, with their resignation never allowed during the period. The BMA's Erawan Program is expected to produce about 500 teachers and educational personnel over the next five years, which should help solve the problem of the shortage of teachers in Bangkok in the long run. The 11 universities joining forces with the City Authority include Srinakharinwirot University, Suan Dusit Rajabhat University, Phranakhon Rajabhat University, Bansomdejchaopraya Rajabhat University, Suan Sunandha Rajabhat University, Chandrakasem Rajabhat University, Dhonburi Rajabhat University, Nakhon Pathom Rajabhat University, Rajabhat Rajanagarindra University, Kasem Bundit University and Stamford International University.
