BANGKOK, May 4 (TNA) - Thailand’s Commerce Ministry is mapping out several campaigns to encourage people to consume more organic food in an attempt to boost domestic consumption of the food by 15 per cent this year, said Srirat Rastapana, Permanent Secretary for Commerce on Sunday.
Mrs. Srirat said the ministry will set up an organic pavilion at the ‘Thaifex – World of Food Asia 2014’ which will be held between May 21 – 25 at IMPACT Muang Thong Thani on Bangkok outskirts.
The ministry will organise another event called the ‘Organic & Natural Expo 2014’ between July 24 – 27 at the Queen Sirikit National Convention Centre, she said.
Plans are also being made to organise similar event in all the four regions in the kingdom, aimed at promoting marketing for organic food products, she said.
Mrs. Srirat said the Ministry of Commerce has also cooperated with at least two local food distributors and a restaurant in an effort to drum up consumption of organic food.
The ministry has also joined hands with the Public Health and the Agriculture and Cooperatives ministries in encouraging farmers and manufacturers to produce more organic food products, she added. (TNA)
