Coal, nuclear, green energy to become priority areas in Sino-Russian cooperation

BEIJING, November 29. /TASS/. Coal, nuclear and green alternative energy together with oil and gas sector will become the key areas of cooperation between Moscow and Beijing, Russia’s Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Dmitry Kobylkin said on Thursday. "As our energy relationship is moving to a new development stage it requires regular discussions and expansion of cooperation forms," he said at the 1st Russian-Chinese Energy Forum in Beijing. "We can discuss coal production projects, and in this part Russia will be developing infrastructure for boosting its coal supplies to the east. I should also point out the role of nuclear energy projects, joint efforts in the area of renewable energy where China is obviously a global leader," Kobylkin stressed. According to the minister, the task of technological development, field development, including innovations for offshore areas, is still relevant. "Obviously, protection and preservation of environment, introduction of environmentally friendly production is one of top priory issues for our countries," he said, adding that the two neighbors can "join forces to solve those most important tasks." He noted that the forum had gathered together not only representatives of energy sector, but also financiers and specialists in the area of information technologies. "Such a union will enable us to efficiently solve the task of managing projects for the sake of our countries’ economies. We already have a positive experience of implementing global joint projects with the People’s Republic of China, and I am confident that there are many other ways to go ahead taking into account mutual interests," the minister said.
