Indonesia opens more rooms for Thai fruits, vegetables

BANGKOK, June 25 (TNA) - The Indonesian government will soon announce a new import quota for Thai fruits and vegetables, especially durian, longan, shallot and chilli, with the total import amount expected to exceed 85,000 tonnes in the second half of this year. Agriculture and Cooperatives Minister Yukol Limleamthong told journalists on Tuesday that he has been reported on the Indonesian move, the second time this year, from Thailand’s Agricultural Counseling Office in Jakarta, Indonesia’s capital. According to Thailand’s Agricultural Counseling Office in Jakarta, based on the new quota, Thailand should export up to 11,000 tonnes of durian, 45,000 tonnes of longan, 1,000 tonnes of mango, 12,000 tonnes of shallot and 18,500 tonnes of chilli to the Indonesian market in the second half of 2013. The Thai Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives suggested, meanwhile, that exporters of Thai fruits thoroughly study Indonesia's import rules and regulations they need to comply, as Indonesia now becomes a major import market for Thai fruits and other economic crops, which help stabilise their prices amid increased domestic supply this year.
