Iran Offers To Establish 1000 MW Power Plants In Pakistan

Islamabad, July 10, IRNA -- An Iranian company on Monday expressed interest in setting up power plants producing 1000 MW capacity on urgent basis to meet energy needs of Pakistan, officials said Monday.
A four-member delegation of MAPNA Group of Companies from Iran, headed by Abbas Ali-Abadi showed interest in implementing the project during a meeting with Minister for Water and Power, Ch. Ahmed Mukhtar in Islamabad.
The delegation also expressed keenness to supply and install 25 MW small power plants on ground as well as on barges to help Pakistan in overcoming the current Power Crisis, a statement from the Ministry of Water and Power said.
The delegation will have follow-up meetings with Pakistani technical experts on Tuesday to finalize the modalities for the electrical power generation projects.
Ahmed Mukhtar appreciated the Iranian concerns for the Pakistani nation's welfare and offered full support of the government of Pakistan in this regard.
Secretary of Water and Power, Managing Director of PPIB, Managing Director of NTDCL, Chairman of Energy Management Cell, and other senior officers of the Ministry were also present at the meeting.
Pakistan faces acute power shortage, forcing the government to observe long power outage across the country.
Officials say that that currently there is currently nearly a 5,000 MW shortfall of electricity power in the summer./end
