Over Bt12b expected to be changed hands during Mother's Day

BANGKOK, August 4 (TNA) - Up to about 12.71 billion baht is expected to be circulated in Thailand during next week's Mother Day's celebrations. Thanavath Phonvichai, Director of the Economic and Business Forecasting Centre, under Bangkok-based University of the Thai Chamber of Commerce, told journalists on Thursday that the projected figure came from a latest survey. Thanavath said that the anticipated spending during next week's Mother Day festivity is about 3.8 per cent year-on-year increase. According to the survey, Thanavath noted that most people would spend on merit makings with their mothers, followed by travels to other places and eating out with their mothers. For gifts to be presented to their mothers, most people opted to give money or gold ornaments to their mothers on the special yearly occasion, followed by garlands or flowers and refreshment drinks. Mother's Day falls on every August 12 in Thailand, which is also the birthday anniversary of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit with grand celebrations nationwide. (TNA)
