Dushanbe, Sept 8, IRNA – The second turbine of Tajikistan’s Sangtoudeh-II power plantset up by Iran became operational, Tajik media said.
The first turbine of the power plant began operation on September 9, 2011 simultaneous with 20th anniversary of Tajikistan’s independence.
Tajik news agencies announced that electricity generated by the second turbine joined national grid last week after final tests.
As the second turbine starts working, the Iran-made power plant will have the capacity to generate 220 megawatts of electricity and remove Tajikistan’s shortage of electricity to a great extent.
Iran has invested dlrs 180 million and Tajikistan dlrs 40 million in the project which is expected to be completed by year end.
Construction of the Sangtoudeh II power plant began in 2006 with the help of the Iranian Sangab company.
Tajik President Emomalii Rahmon said last month that Sangtoudeh-II power plant had been the most important and biggest power plant constructed in the Central Asian country since its independence 22 years ago./end
