Sri Lanka Urges Promotion Of Energy Co-op With Iran

Tehran, Dec 12, IRNA – Visiting Sri Lankan Industry and Trade Minister Rishard Badi-ud-Din in a meeting with Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi Tuesday called for promotion of cooperation with Iran in the field of energy. Being accompanied by an economic delegation in his visit to Tehran, he also talked with Iran's Minister of Trade, Industry and Mines Mehdi Ghazanfari, in addition to Salehi. According to a report by the Foreign Ministry, Salehi recalled the political resolve of the two countries' presidents to further consolidate bilateral ties and voiced Iran's readiness for further promotion of mutual cooperation in the fields of politics, economy, commerce, transit and joint investment. Badi-ud-Din, for his part, underlined development of bilateral cooperation and said that his country is willing to enhance commercial and economic cooperation in the field of energy. Sri Lanka is an island country in the northern Indian Ocean off the southern coast of the Indian subcontinent in South Asia. Known until 1972 as Ceylon, Sri Lanka has maritime borders with India to the northwest and the Maldives to the southwest./end
